House with a front lawn and a tall flagpole flying the Canadian flag

Choosing a home flagpole

Most homes fly a flag of Canada, a provincial flag or a team flag. The pole should be tall enough that the flag clears trees, roofs and cars, but not so tall that it looks out of scale with the house.

In-ground poles stand in a buried sleeve or foundation, so they need a clear spot and a proper hole. If you would rather not dig, a wall-mount pole is simpler. If you want to take the pole down easily, look at telescopic poles.
