Flagpole buying guide

What to decide and what to measure before you request a quote.

House with a front lawn and a tall flagpole flying the Canadian flag

Five decisions

  1. Where will the flag fly?

Yard, wall, building entrance, roof or event site. This decides the pole type.

  2. How tall?

See size and type for how height relates to flag size.

  3. Which flag?

Choose the flag first, then match the pole. See flags.

  4. What hardware?

Brackets, halyard, finial and light. See hardware.

  5. Buy, rent or install?

    Compare buying, renting and installation.

Check before you order

Look up and around. Trees, buildings and overhead wires limit how tall a pole can be. Also check rules from your municipality or property owner.

Take a photo of the spot, note the surface (grass, concrete, brick, siding) and the distance to the street or building. These details make a quote much faster.
